Read the first two pages of John Burningham's?It's a Secret. (You should end with the line, "There, by the cat door, was Malcolm the cat, and he was all dressed up in fancy clothes and a hat.")
Explain to students that they will be continuing the story and writing about what they think Malcolm is up to. After students have finished their own stories, share them before a complete reading of It's a Secret!
