Fun! You could also extend this activity by "packing" for the trip. Either draw or cut out images of different objects like food, clothing, tools, etc. and the students need to decide what they need to take with them and what would be too heavy.

Have your students walk the Oregon Trail!
- Map of the Oregon Trail
- Mileage Log
- Magnetic White Board
- Wagon Magnet
- To walk the Oregon Trail with the class.
Post a map of the Oregon trail in the classroom and then create a marker to represent the classroom as a whole. Measure the trail and make even marks to measure every 50 miles. (The trip was about 2,000 miles.) Have students fill out the log each week and turn it in to keep track of classroom miles. Pedometers can be used, also.
