Summary:
Here is an easy way to help young writers remember how to correctly write lower case b and d the correct way with out making reversals.
Materials:
- none, just two hands
Goals:
- students will be able to self correct reversals.
Resource Instructions
Students only need to look at their hands in order to determine the proper direction to write a lower case b and a lower case d. Students will place both hands in a thumbs up position in front of themselves. Looking at their hands the students will slightly raise the left hand first and make the b sound then lower that hand and make the short u sound then raise the right hand slightly and make the d sound. The result is the word bud and the left hand is in the shape of a lower case b as the right hand is in the shape of a lower case d. So using the two hands the student at anytime can say "bud" and take note of the hand shape to letter sound in order to correctly write a lower case b and d.
