Begin to understand the element of scale as related to a map or globe. Locate the equator on a globe. Locate and name the bodies of water and the continents.

Resource Instructions

Procedures:

  1. Sing Continents Song & Ocean Song (HOOK)
  2. Label continents on the bulletin board.
  3. Identify the Oceans on the bulletin board.
  4. Locate Gulf of Mexico on Board.
  5. Draw compass rose on board and have students identify location of NSEW.

Allow extra wait time instead of picking the first group to raise their hands. Call on a variety of students, even those who are afraid to raise their hand. Allow students to get a closer look at a map (labeled worksheet). Allow students to work in groups or individually when filling out the worksheet.
