Students categorize sentences into four sentence types.
- Simply print off the category board and cards. Precut the cards prior to the lesson. You can make a set for each individual, partners, or small groups. You can also copy the materials onto cardstock, store in envelopes, and use year after year.
- Students categorize sentences into four categories: declarative, interrogative, exclamatory, and imperative.
Teach your lesson(s) on the four types of sentences. Use the cateogry board as an actively engaging guided practice activity or assessment.

Use this activity as an assessment. Go around the room and check each students category board before they put it away. Take a grade on the percentage of sentences categorized correctly. There are 40 sentences; 10 in each category. This file includes an answer key.
